Discipline Policy

Behavior Descriptions and Infraction Level(s)

Problem Behavior


Level of Offense


Student refuses to follow adult directions or classroom/school rules, refuses to do work, talks back or exhibits socially rude behavior. (*Frequent offenders will rise to Tier 2 or 3)



All behaviors that disrupt the classroom environment making it difficult for teacher to teach and students to learn. (*Frequent offenders will rise to Tier 2 or 3)


Abusive Language

Student delivers verbal messages to another person that includes swearing, name calling or use of words in an inappropriate way.


Cheating/Forgery/ Lying

Cheating: violate rules or regulations

Forgery: signing another person’s name

Lying: deceiving another by telling an untruth


Inappropriate Sexual Behavior (Public Displays of Affection)

Student engages in behaviors such as kissing, hugging, or groping.


Misuse of Electronic Device

Student engages in inappropriate use of cell phone, music/video players, camera or computer.



Students are expected to use appropriate language at all times.



Students are expected to be in class and prepared at 8:00 am, and all subsequent class periods.


Possession of Alcohol

Student is in possession of or is using alcoholic beverage. (*Determination of Tier 2 or 3 will be made on a case by case basis.  Additional intervention may be necessary.)

Possession of Drugs

Student is in possession of controlled substance/drug paraphernalia or is using illegal drugs/substances or imitations (*Determination of Tier 2 or 3 will be made on a case by case basis.  Additional intervention may be necessary.)

Property Damage/ Vandalism

Student engages in behavior that results in destruction or disfigurement of property belonging to student, staff or school. (*Determination of Tier 1, 2 or 3 will be made on a case by case basis depending on the extent of the damage.  Additional intervention may be necessary.)

Bullying: an aggressive behavior that involves an imbalance of real or perceived physical or psychological power among those involved.

Hazing: any method of initiation or pre-initiation into a student organization which is likely to cause serious bodily injury.


Inappropriate Sexual Behavior

Student engages in verbal or physical gestures/contact, of a sexual nature to another student/adult, either consensual or non-consensual.

Obscene act: misconduct such as inappropriate sexual comments or gestures.



Any willful and unlawful use of force or violence upon the person of another.


Brandishing of a dangerous object

Display a knife in a threatening manner to cause fear or physical harm.



To obtain by coercive means, such as threat or intimidation.



Student fights with or otherwise intentionally causes injury to another person.



Student engages in behaviors that threaten, intimidate, demean, embarrass or ridicule a student or staff member. This may include the spreading of rumors about another student and threats to fight with or harm another student. It also includes the use of terms derogatory to a person’s race ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation.


Physical Aggression

Student engages in inappropriate physical contact that may or may not cause physical injury (i.e. pushing, shoving or kicking).


Possession of Dangerous Object

Student is in possession of knives or guns (real or look alike) or other objects readily capable of causing bodily harm.


Possession of Firearm

Any weapon which will or is designed to or may readily be converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive.



The taking of personal property in the possession of another by force or threat of force.


Selling Drugs

Sale of controlled substance


Sexual Assault/Battery

Sexual assault: rape, sodomy, lascivious acts upon a child under 14 years old, oral copulation, penetration of a genital or anal opening by a foreign object. Sexual battery: touching of an intimate part of another person against that person’s will for the specific purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, or sexual abuse.


Sexual Harassment

Refer to BUL-3349.0

Unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors; or other unwelcome verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.


Terroristic Threat

E.C. 48900.7(b)

“Any statement by a person who willfully threatens to commit a crime which will result in death, great bodily injury to another person, or property damage in excess of $1,000.00, with the specific intent that the statement is to be taken as a threat.”



Student is in possession of, having passed on or being responsible for removing someone else’s property. Taking of property of others without the permission of the owner; larceny.



Student has verbalized the intent to cause harm to students or staff.


Intervention & Support






  • Level 1 and 2 offenders
  • Isolated behavior, not frequent.
  • Student will be subjected to all behavior consequences.


  • Behavior will be monitored by the Lead Teacher.
  • Reteach behavioral expectations
  • Acknowledge and reward positive behavior.
  • Promote and strengthen sense of belonging and ownership through restorative conversations.


  • Repeated offenses of Level 1 and 2.
  • Isolated offenders, Level 3 (Depending on severity of offense)
  • Student will be subjected to all behavior consequences.


  • Student will be placed on a behavior contract and monitored by the Lead Teacher.
  • Provide all Tier 1 supports.
  • Refer to CCLA Restorative Justice Coordinator
  • Restorative Conversations and Dialogues
  • Problem Solving Circles
  • Emotion Management Instruction


  • Frequent Level 1-3 offenders.
  • Repeated Level 3 offenders.
  • Student will be subjected to all behavior consequences.
  • Additional support provided by School Police or other support service provider may be needed.
  • Student will be placed on behavior contract and monitored by the Lead Teacher if determined student is to remain on campus.
  • Expulsion or Opportunity Transfer (OT) if necessary for safety and well being of all students and school program.
  • Provide All Tier 1 and Tier 2 Supports.
  • Refer to CCLA Restorative Justice Coordinator
    • Individual Counseling to focus on emotion management and empathy building, crisis intervention, threat assessment, and restitution.


  • Students who commit drug or alcohol infractions will be required to complete 20 hours of a counseling program with Total Family Support Clinic or other drug counseling program.
  • Students commit bullying, hazing, harassment, and/or sexual harassment infractions will be required to attend a harassment/sexual harassment awareness workshop arranged by the Academy of Scientific Exploration.
